Barbara Everard painted it for a house painter because he took away the house sign of Tamar Cottage, where she lived, and refurbished it in his own time (the house was being painted at the time). She had a general fascination for workers and they got on well, and as a thank-you she did him a special painting. She copied it from a reference...her little joke being 'skinneri' as it was the name of the house painter.
On the back of the painting is written:
'Cattleya skinneri painted Sept 30th 1987 Reference Orchids LE Bowen, Golden Guide Orchids by Shuttleworth - Zim'.
"A Golden Guide: Orchids", is out of print and there are references on search engines so it may be found for sale on the internet
