Telscombe, set deep in the Sussex downland, opened its doors to visitors, to recount its history and show off its historic landmark buildings.
Telscombe was Barbara Everard's birthplace, eldest daughter of Charles Steying Beard, of the family that had lived in and owned thousands of acres of farmland around Rotingdean for centuries. Her elder son, Martin Everard showed some of Barbara Everard's paintings and sell her memoirs, Call Them the Happy Years, which tells not only of the years she spent in Telscombe, but also her illustrious career as one of the world's foremost 20th century botanical artists.
As well as prints and original paintings, the Orchid Society of Great Britain's greetings cards, designed for the Barbara Everard Trust for Orchid Conservation (BETOC) were also on sale, the proceeds going to her charity, with the aim of providing a home for private orchid collections, that may be abandoned.
Our thanks for organising this fund raising event go to Mr Alan Parker and Telscombe Town Council.
